The Design Range is always open to receiving articles and ideas from our readers and from other design professionals, and we welcome guest posting on our website. If you’re interested in guest posting please contact us with your idea for an article, your name and your website (if you have one). Please don’t write a full article before submitting, as we have a hefty catalouge of pre written articles already and we will be unable to accept anything that duplicates content we already have. Here are a few best practices.
Generally we try to aim our articles at Graphic Designers and other professionals in creative industries. Our articles are weighted more toward the business management end of graphic design rather than the skill side of things. In short we assume that our readers already know their craft inside and out and don’t need any help from us on how to do their job. We try to publish articles that focus more on how they run their business – things like client interaction, productivity, how to find work and increase income ect…
One other element that we look for is that our articles are written specifically for the creative industries and reference issues that graphic designers, photographers, web designers ect… may face. In the past we have had articles submitted to us that talk about interesting topics, but in a far too general way (in that they could be applied to any kind of business, not specifically a design related business). Obviously there will be some degree of crossover that is unavoidable, but if you could bear it in mind throughout the article it really does make all the difference (using examples that relate to design is an easy way to accomplish this).
As much as we encourage guest posters, we do try to keep a really high standard of article writing at The Design Range, so even if we like your idea we don’t accept any obligation to publish your work if we don’t feel it meets the standards set by The Design Range.
Unfortunately The Design Range is currently not in a position to offer any payment for articles published, however as the site grows and we’re able to help more and more graphic designers increase their salary, this is certainly something we hope to be able to do. In the meantime as mentioned earlier you are free to promote yourself and your website through your articles and receive some traffic for your work.
